Ever had to say goodbye to someone,
knowing that you'll never see them again? Another cheerful song to help
keep us all going. I was listening to a lot of Neil Diamond
when I wrote this song - and it shows.
Prologue
In the middle of the night, when you've fallen out your dreams
And the world is much more frightening, and so much bigger than it seemed
When you think about the past, all the things you could have changed
Would it be so very different, would the regrets have stayed the same?
--
Hold out your hand, give me a smile
Let's forget about the past for a short while
A tear rolls down, your pain is clear
I'm not the ice-cold-hearted man I may appear
Never thought your time would come before me
But as the shadows gather round I want to say
It never would have turned out like a Busby Berkley film
We couldn't stay together, say it's true
Goodbye is just a word we used so many times before
But I'll say it one more time now just to you
And I'll say this one more time now just to you:
I love you
The window's closed, the curtain drawn
To protect you from the light of your last dawn
I'll comb your hair, and kiss your cheek
And put my ear close by your mouth to hear you speak
Time's gone by so quickly since I knew you
Though we wanted it to work you have to see
It never would have turned out like a Busby Berkley film
We couldn't stay together, say it's true
Goodbye is just a word we used so many times before
But I'll say it one last time now just to you
And I'll say this one last time now just to you:
I love you
I love you
