Another cheerful number inspired by a newspaper article. This one is about a marriage based on hope more than anything else. Our hero is not too bright, and things that a little drink and a little physical persuasion is all that is required.

It was the last day of April
As we drove down the lane
We found the church, and made our plans
To meet again
Well, we made our pledge together
And we spoke out with pride
Looking forward to a life together
Side by side

Well I didn't want a family
I thought she felt the same
But two years on, to my surprise
The kids came
So I had to work more hours
And she stayed home all the while
No more time to spend together
No smiles

Marriage can be disappointing
Contentment hard to find
A bottle is your taxi
To the land of never mind

In slow motion we see a drunken man
And a woman in the hall
A baby cries, the woman screams as she
Bounces off the walls

It was the last day of April
And the rain was pouring down
When she took the kids, and packed the car
And left town
While I sat in the kitchen
Just staring at my hands
Not yet ready to begin
To understand
